Priority: 2.1 Accountability for equity and human rights

Commitment

The HDSB is committed to create a safe, inclusive, engaging learning and working environment for students and staff by upholding and promoting human rights and strengthening accountability for this across a range of areas including program support and performance appraisals at all levels of the Board.

Strategies

  • Ongoing review and revision of Safe Schools programs

  • Ensure alignment across system plans and processes

  • Develop and implement system and school leadership competencies that demonstrate support for human rights and equity

Priority: 2.2 Enhanced diversity in leadership, hiring, promotion and decision-making

Commitment

The HDSB is committed to creating and sustaining a workforce that is reflective of the broad range of identities in society through equitable recruiting, hiring, mentoring and promoting staff at all levels of the organization.

Strategies

  • Establish and support equitable practices in the HDSB workforce

Priority: 2.3 Create and enhance school board structures to promote and ensure human rights and equity

Commitment

The HDSB is committed to implementing formal structures (e.g., Human Rights Equity & Inclusive Education Advisory Committee, Indigenous and Racialized Educators Network, Accessibility Coordinating Committee) to promote, monitor and enforce human rights and equity and ensuring schools and workplaces are free from discrimination and harassment.

  • Develop and implement structures to support and monitor the implementation of The Way Forward

  • Implement and monitor the HDSB Discriminatory & Harmful Language Protocol

Priority 2.4: Professional development focused on equity, inclusion and human rights

Commitment

The HDSB is committed to building competency through ongoing equity, inclusion and human rights training for all staff and students.

Strategies

  • Build system capacity of staff at all levels of the organization in understanding of systemic action as leaders in workplaces, schools and classrooms
